GAETI2014-MSU DAY 13 Very good day today, With all the Common Core presentations I have seen today Vincent Segalini from the Mississippi Department of Education presented the best explanation of CCSS that I have seen. I have a much better grasp of CCSS than before. His presentation was interesting, informative and full of humor. I will use the technique he used to analyze a photo or cartoon. We also identified several web sites that will be useful. After lunch we went to the computer lab, not my favorite place. Dr. Lee showed us Canvas and scoopit. I am not as skilled in computer use and I have a difficult time following procedures to master the websites. I think there is a gremlin in the computer that knows when I sit down and then the computer does not do what it should. However I am learning new technology daily. In the art lab I have completed 90% of my project, and I like it.

GAETI-2014-MSU DAY 12, Today we searched for websites that offered grants for education. Several sites were informative, and had info other than grants. Jeannette Bennett from the federal reserve came in and entertained us with much information that could be used in economics, US history government, Mississippi studies Spanish, and other classes. She had several hand outs and even cd's with info. Her presentation was great, lots of info and ideas that can enhance any class. In the afternoon we worked on lesson plan development. This will be a great help in August.

GAETI-2014-MSU Day 11 This morning Dr. Bracey led a discussion on school policy on BYOD. we divided into groups and discussed the policies in schools that we are in and then presented to the class our ideas on the bring your own device policy that some schools have. she then listed pros and cons for the idea. The most common idea was consistency in the school for the teachers and the administration. Several teachers contributed ideas and information on other subjects also. We then gave our ideas of a presentation of what we would present to our home school staff about what we have learned in the institute. After lunch we met in the computer lab and shared what organizations we belong to. I have never used my MPE membership but would not be in a classroom with out the insurance it provides. The Mississippi Council for the Social Studies was also mentioned as was several language organizations. Then to the computers. I am the least computer talented person in the room. I am having difficulty in grasping all the ideas and techniques to master the new stuff. I did get my competency and objectives posted to the Google drive page. I will take all these new ideas, websites etc. and filter through them and pick what I can master and use. I have many new ideas to incorporate more tech in the classroom.

GAETI-2014-MSU, DAY 10--Today we have been exposed to so much information it is difficult to take it all in. Kimberly Lane from Dallas Texas showed us many different web sites that could be used in the classroom. I will have to look at them and play with the features of them to see which one I will be able to use in my classroom. I have used the twitter page in the past and I will use it in the future to communicate with my students to remind them of work that is due. I use a Promethean board in my class now with the software they provide. I will look at the other presentation software to see if I like it better such as Prezi. Several websites look as though they may be helpful in teaching practices, such as Teaching Channel, Teacher tube and Live binders.

GAETI-2014-MSU Today, Friday, we met in room 201, Dr. Bracey began 21st Century skills, I liked the soft skills, hard skills information, that will be a help in class. The show and tell was very interesting. other teachers gave us ideas that can be adapted to my classroom. After lunch we developed an idea for a service learning project. The presentations were all good. Mr. D. Fomby presented an automobile safty program that can be used in class. We continued to work on our art project. Good day, lots of valuable information.
GATI-2014-MSU DAY 8. Today we met at the Economics building all day. the program was led by Dr Becky Smith. After introductions she gave us a brief over view of "What is economics". This was very interesting, she identified "choices" as a main factor especialy in personal economics. The video on How a Waitress make a pencil was great. At noon sandwiches were delivered and we ate in the conference room. Dr. Cade Smith presented on service-learning. This is more than just a one time service project but a reciprocal learning process with reflection. Dr. Shaffett presented on personal finance, and had several handouts that could be used in class. Dr. James Wilcox presented from USM via video conference. He told us about a service-learning project to involve students in a middle school in educating elders in fraud protection. Although I teach U.S. history I will be able to incorporate some of the economic information in my lessons.
